When you ask to stop smoking patches work, think of some statistics. There are millions of people across the world who are smokers, and thousands of those people or more wish to quit. Due to life’s everyday problems stresses and annoyances, smokers may find it very hard to quit. A non smoker of course would look at this as something that should be extremely easy to do, but the simple truth of the matter is, it is not easy.

Once your body becomes addicted to nicotine it can be difficult to stop or control the urges. You get used to smoking at certain periods in times of the day after meals, during break, in your car, to where it becomes a habit. Unfortunately, it is a habit that is hard to break. A nicotine patch was formulated in hopes of helping those who are finding it difficult to fight the urge, somehow begin to.

There are some smoking education companies that have formed all over the world in hopes to help people quit smoking as well. A lot of companies have offered smoking cessation classes to their employees in efforts to help them quit. These educational classes give lots of information on different ways of quitting smoking. Some offer free stop smoking aids to help you in your journey to a healthier living.

The purpose of the patches is to help you quit smoking gradually. They give off a dose of nicotine to help you from lightning up during cravings, and as you grow in the program the nicotine dose lessons. Kicking the habit is only accomplished by very few people around the world. Of the millions who try every year very few achieve their goal.

Nicotine affects receptors in your brain. Those cravings that you have, as you try and quit are not wimps by a long shot. Your brain is used to that nicotine, and once you stop giving it some it goes a little haywire. Which causes you to feel withdrawal cravings that can be pretty severe. Those who smoke more than a pack a day are sure to have some pretty strong withdrawals.

There are some herbal patches that are made from natural ingredients that some people choose to use versus the ones with chemicals. Either way you go, it really all depends on your body the way that the patches will affect you. Different people react differently to different medications. The same goes for patches gone this or any other quit smoking method you may choose to try.

It is wise to talk it over with your doctor and let them know that you are interested in quitting smoking. Let them know how many packs a day you smoke or how many cigarettes you smoke, a day. If he has access to your previous medical records will be able to better let you know, if something may have a contraindication to you using it.

One of the things I hear a lot from smokers in my Toronto (Ontario, Canada) hypnosis quit smoking clinic is “I smoke to relax”. If smoking really was relaxing then the more you smoked the more relaxed you’d be and chain smokers would be the most relaxed people on the planet. Do you know anyone who chain smokes and is really relaxed? I certainly don’t.

The fact is that nicotine is a powerful stimulant, and the minute it enters your bloodstream, your heart beat speeds up 10 to 15 beats a minute in an attempt to get rid of the poison you’ve just inhaled. If you take your blood pressure just just after a cigarette you will notice a sharp increase. So, the truth is it’s impossible to smoke and relax.

So where does the feeling of relaxation come from? Part of it is conditioning, over the years you’ve been conditioned (aka “hypnotized”) to associate smoking with relaxing. After all don’t you smoke when taking a break and doing many other relaxing things? The other part is how you breathe when you smoke. If you inhale deeply when you smoke, you are probably breathing in a way which promotes relaxation. So why not just learn to breathe that way without the cigarettes? That way when you quit smoking you can keep the relaxation after you stop.

Here’s how to breathe so that it slows down the pace of your whole body and promote physical relaxation. Take a deep breath using your belly muscles and let your stomach expand as far as possible as you inhale. Fill your lungs as completely as possible and let your stomach expand as though it were being filled like a balloon. If you want put your hand on your abdomen so you get some tactile feedback.

Now slowly exhale and feel your stomach return to its normal position and pause comfortably at the end of the breath until you feel ready to take the next deep breath. Don’t force it, take your time and allow your body to slow down. You can do this for as long or a short a time as you like, but doing this for the 4 or 5 minutes that you would normally smoke a cigarette should significantly quiet your whole body and leave you felling very relaxed.

Unless you are driving or doing something that requires your attention, you can achieve even greater relaxation by closing your eyes and letting your mind focus on a restful scene or anything else which gives you a peaceful feeling. For some people repeating a word or “mantra” like “relax” can also help quiet the mind during deep breathing.

The beauty is that you can do this almost anytime or anywhere and in many places where smoking is not permitted. Over time this type of breathing will likely become a habit (like smoking was), but this new habit that will improve your health and sense of well being.

Everyone knows the dangers of smoking as the health risks are everywhere even on a cigarette packet. However, many people find it very difficult to give up even when they know the damage it can do to their bodies. For most people the health risk is not effective in getting them to give up. To give up smoking you need to take responsibility and make a commitment to kick the habit.

Here are a few suggestions to help you quit:

Support

Although quitting is up to you the journey ahead can be made a lot easier by having the support of family and friends along the way. Whoever you choose tell them what you are going to do and make it clear how important their support is to get you through this. There may be a point where a relapse is possible and at this point the support of family and friends can make all the difference by giving you the courage and belief you need to follow through.

Another way to prepare yourself is to speak to your doctor to get advice on nicotine substitutes to help you with the withdrawal systems. Also, check support groups in your local area as going through this with people in the same situation will be a great help.

Set Your Goal

Writing down your goals is a very effective method in helping you achieve them as it makes it clear in your mind what you need to aim for. Begin by choosing a date that you will decide to quit smoking and write it down and put it in a place where you will see it every day. The next thing to do is write down your reasons why. This could be better health, more energy, more money saved or even whiter teeth. Writing these down will reinforce your commitment to quit.

The process of quitting can be done in two ways. The more drastic option is to stop smoking completely and the other way is to cut down gradually. The first method will bring on the withdrawals symptoms much quicker and more intense so, you need to be sure you have the discipline to do it.

Distractions

Cutting down on the cigarettes gradually is probably the easier option. If you smoke ten a day then smoke one less cigarette each day. Prepare by giving yourself enough distractions to stem the urge to light up. Use healthy alternatives like fruits, mints or gum. If you feel the urge to put a cigarette in your mouth use one of those instead.
The most effective distraction is taking regular exercise. It also has the added benefit of keeping you fit and helps you get rid of the toxins in your body.

If you socialise with friends who smoke then avoid them until you have successfully quit. Make sure you explain why you are doing it so they understand. Change certain habits for example, a lot of smokers have the habit of lighting up after eating a meal. If you have this habit and you feel the trigger to light up get up immediately from the table and do an activity that will distract you such as washing the dishes.

For someone that smokes, quitting smoking is one of the hardest habits to break. There are many methods you can use to stop smoking such as patches, pills, herbal remedies and hypnosis. As you can see some are natural, others man made. In this article I will show some of the obstacles you will face in your quest to stop smoking and then show how you can quit smoking by hypnosis.

Common Barriers to Stop Smoking:

Not really wanting to stop smoking. In order to stop smoking you have to really want to quit smoking. If you don’t then no matter hard you try, in the long run you will eventually start back up again.

Giving in to the craving too easily. It’s said that it takes about 3 days of not smoking before the craving for a cigarette will start to lose its edge. For a smoker, three days feels like a lifetime. As a result many smokers will give in to this urge to smoke quite easily.

As with any habit, you will have triggers that will cause you to automatically light up that cigarette and you do light up every time you come across these triggers.

Not having a support system in place when you want to quit. This is a big one, because without that support system to help you stick with your plan it can be quite easy to give up and continue to smoke.

There are ways to get past all these barriers most of which have some element of “it’s all in your head” theme. One method is to quit smoking by hypnosis. Whether you go see a hypnotist, or listen to tapes, or even self hypnotize more and more people are turning to quitting smoking by hypnosis either in addition to other methods or using it as the only method to use.

How Can Hypnosis Get Past These Barriers?

By using hypnosis as a weapon to fight your smoking habit you will be helping your brain to fight the cravings and habits that come along with smoking. It helps you to quit by changing your habits on a sub conscious level. It can teach you to ignore your triggers, and get past your cravings to smoke.

You should still have some sort of support system in place, and honestly you will still have to want to quit smoking as it will take a lot of will power to break the smoking habit.

There is no question that there are prescription drugs and over-the-counter remedies to help smokers quit and they have been a great help to many people over the years. But in addition to the side effects that people report from using them, they can also be quite expensive. There are even some of these drugs that can become addictive in and of themselves. Who wants to trade in one addiction for another even if it does mean that you will stop smoking cigarettes?

The good news is that these days there are more and more natural remedies that people can use to help them with all kinds of health concerns, including some that can help them kick the cigarette habit. These natural methods can provide a great deal of help to stop smoking, but which one is right for each individual smoker will depend on their beliefs and perceptions of what will best help them.

One of the natural quit smoking methods that most people will come across when they start to do research into the subject is hypnotherapy. You can find quit smoking programs on CDs that take you through several hypnosis sessions to help you overcome your addiction. These sessions typically deal with different aspects of the smoking issue to help you clear all blocks from all angles. In addition, you can also visit a hypnotherapy clinic and get customized sessions to help you with specific problems and issues you might have.

Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT, is another approach that has recently been used to help people give up their cigarette addiction. EFT is a tapping technique that involves light tapping on various meridian points on the body. Tapping these points, similar to stimulating acupuncture points, can help release emotional issues, which are often at the root of a person’s need to continue smoking. When these emotional matters are resolved, often the desire to smoke simply melts away.

Some people find that they want to take some type of supplement that will give them help to stop smoking. The taking of an herbal supplement can in some instances help a person feel that they are replacing the smoking with something else that is beneficial to their body. Taking St. John’s Wort, which is also used as a natural anti-depressant, has proven to be an effective natural way to quit.

According to a survey, the number of people dying of smoking reaches 2,500,000 every year around the world. Smoke is the first human murderer. Smoking has caused attention to many people. Then why are cigarettes still attracted to so many people? How can people managed to stop being a nicotine addict?

Firstly, with our society developing at an amazingly fast speed, people are under great pressure. As a result, people pursue cigarettes as a way to release their burden.

Secondly, some people including the students think it cool to smoke. Smoking makes them feel excited. Besides, they feel they would become energetic after smoking. Some people also regard it as a way to attract the opposite sex.

Thirdly, some people become addicted to smoking by imitating other people, especially the children. It’s reported that nearly 80% people tend to smoke if his or her mother or father is a smoker.

The above are some reasons why people smoke. As we know, smoking can make the human feel headache and tired. It makes working efficiency drop and it causes many kinds of diseases. What’s worse, second-hand smoke hurt the health of the family deadly as well the people around. In that way, how could we get rid of smoking successfully?

In my opinion, the key point is that smokers must have the desire from their deep hearts to quit smoking. Nothing is impossible as long as you put your mind into it. What’s more, find motivations for them so that smokers are able to convince themselves of quitting smoking. In addition, try to make themselves focus on other things such as playing computer games and candy when they want to smoke.

At last, the most effective way to quit smoking I think is to go see a doctor and using some medicine plus your determination to get rid of cigarettes.

A lot of smokers are aware of what they’ve got themselves into with their habit and know what effects smoking may have on their bodies and health. Despite seeing physical changes and immediate differences, it isn’t usually enough to stop the habit.

Seeing the effects in themselves won’t motivate the smoker to quit as much as actually beginning to feel their own biological degradation. It usually has to come to a point where a considerable amount of damage has occurred to the body until the smoker seriously considers giving up. Why wait when you know that physical and health problems could have been avoided in the first place?

Nicotine addiction is the answer to that question but things can get better once you quit.

Giving up smoking

Your appetite improves within a week and you’ll begin feeling more energetic. Skin conditions, taste, and smell return to normal and the ugly nicotine stains disappear from your fingers. Blood circulation also improves helping those with white finger or Reynards disease. Discolouring on toe nails may gradually diminish because your circulation is better. A reversal of of the effects of gum disease may occur if you take care with dental hygene alongside quitting smoking.

In about a year, the risk of respiratory infections and ailments such as chronic bronchitis or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, decrease. This is because cilia, a protective layer composed of tiny hair-like structures, recover and lung capacity begins restoring itself. Cilia facilitate the removal of impurities from the lungs and nasal cavities but smoking halts that process by paralyzing and destroying the cilia.

In the years to follow, the risk of cardio-pulmonary diseases significantly decreases. Furthermore, the threat of cancer drops. It is not limited to the lungs but other organs as well since the toxins and carcinogens now present in the lungs enter the bloodstream when oxygen is delivered to the different parts of the body. The chances of stroke considerably fall as well. These are all made possible when the urge to smoke is curbed. And with all of that, you now have something to look forward to when giving up smoking.

Within half an hour alone of giving your body a break, your pulse rate and blood pressure decreases considerably and starts to return to normal levels. That’s because nicotine rapidly releases adrenaline into our bloodstream, instantly augmenting blood pressure. In about two days, all traces of nicotine have left the body. There is a decline in toxic carbon monoxide levels while oxygen levels stabilize.

Quitting smoking is really an extremely arduous task. But do bear in mind how much you are preserving your life and the life of those around you who have been breathing in your secondhand smoke. It all begins with putting that cigarette down and throwing the lighter away. Remember that shortly after your last smoke, the body starts healing itself and it is a great help if we give our systems the time it needs to recover and reverse the damage done.

It is so much easier to start than to quit smoking, but in this day and age you don’t have to go cold turkey because there are a growing amount of stop smoking aids available. Do yourself and those around you a favour check them out now.
